Position Title:  Faith In Action Volunteer

Position Reports to: Faith In Action Program Director or Congregation Liaison, or Team Leader

Position Summary: The primary purpose of the volunteer caregiver position is to provide support and non-professional assistance to the qualified persons.

Position Responsibilities: Responsibilities of the volunteer caregiver will depend on the interests, skills and abilities of the volunteer as well as the specific needs of the care receiver. Faith in Action program policies and procedures should be followed at all times. Specific responsibilities may include the following:

  • Contact the care receiver, confirm the type and extent of assistance needed, and plan accordingly. 
  • Provide volunteer caregiving services such as:
    • Friendly Telephone calls as arranged
    • Friendly Home Visits to homebound seniors
    • Provide transportation or escort to appointments
    • Provide assistance with shopping or necessary errands as arranged
    • Assist in accessing other community resources
  • Follow program procedures when responding to emergency situations.
  • Notify the Faith In Action program office through written monthly reports, phone calls, or email of any changes in the care receiver’s physical or mental condition and/or the need for additional services from other community agencies. 
  • Hold in highest confidence the relationship(s) you share with the care receiver. Do not discuss with anyone any specifics of your contact or personal and family information of the care receiver. The only exception is to inform the program office of any emergency situation.

Position Requirements: To effectively fulfill the responsibilities of this position, the following are required:

  • Sincere interest in working with the population served by this Faith In Action program.
  • Patience, flexibility, and reliability
  • Openness and respect for people from diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to confidentiality
  • Complete a personal interview, application form, and two letters of reference from non-relatives
  • Copy of driver’s license and auto insurance card for transportation volunteers
  • Attendance at volunteer orientation training sessions
  • Provide the program office with reports of volunteer hours and description of tasks completed
  • Abide by all policies and procedures of the program

Position Commitment: Volunteers interested in this position must commit to the following:

  • Complete volunteer application and personal interview
  • Attend regular volunteer orientation and training sessions to improve knowledge and/or skills to enhance your volunteer experiences
  • Read volunteer information provided
  • Report volunteer hours and description of tasks completed on a monthly basis
  • Complete other volunteer requirements such as background check (if necessary), and personal reference check.
